Be your own TV Star

If I am having a bad day, bad thoughts, negative emotions how do I change?  It is a lot simpler than you think.

Think of yourself as being in a television.  You are the star of all the programs; you are whomever you want to be, so let’s be the hero.  You are the good guy and the hero of every single television program out there.  Your show does not have it?  It absolutely does.  Who is the good guy, who is the one that you see as the positive force?  Be that person.

What happens when you don’t like the show on TV?  You change the station.  You are still the star, the station still revolves around you.  Act like the star.  Keep changing the station until you find the program you like.

Now do it with your thoughts.  Yes it is that easy.  If you don’t like what you are thinking imagine that you are watching TV and you simply change the station to a better one, a more positive one, a happier one.  Change the station of your mind.

It does take practice so be willing to give this some time.  Take the next few days to simply change the station of your thoughts.  Let’s take an example that most of us have from time to time:

Let’s say you are commuting to work.  It is stressful; the traffic is heavy as usual.  People are changing lanes and no matter what lane you choose it is the slowest one.  You seem to take longer and longer to get to work.  Your car is eating up more and more expensive gas.  How do you change this?  Change the channel.

All those thoughts are about how negative the situation is.  Now you are in the same situation but you are surrounded by your commuting buddies.  You change lanes so that you can see everyone.  They change lanes so that they get out of your way, or protect you from danger.  You take a little longer because the DJ is playing good songs on the radio, or your audio book is right in the middle of a good part.  You are taking your time because going slower conserves gas.  You have plenty of time to get to work, and work will not start without you.

Yes it is that simple.  Same situation with a different perspective.  You change the channel of your thoughts.  It is the same with your actions and your emotions.  If you don’t like the way you feel simply change the station.  It will take a little practice.  Maybe carry around a remote control and physically go through the action of changing stations at first.  But you will see that the more you practice it the easier it will be to simply tune into the station that you like the best.
